London market staged a late recovery yesterday
On the downside, real estate shares took a hammering after a broker downgrade for Segro – formerly Slough Estates – from HSBC. Segro dived 2%, or 12½p to 625p, while Hammerson fell 26p to 1434p and Liberty International eased 28p at 1145p.

British property prices are not about to fall sharply

Russian tycoons make London real estate go up
The most popular London districts amongst the rich customers are Belgravia, Mayfair, Knightsbridge and Chelsea. According to the real estate agents, last year 20-30 houses which cost from 10 million pounds were sold there, while houses in more than 50 streets in central London went up in price by more than 30% within a year.

A Rocky Start for British REIT
AFTER much fanfare, legislation creating real estate investment trusts in Britain, one of Europe’s biggest property markets, took effect on Jan. 1. Almost immediately, nine of the country’s largest real estate companies converted to REITs, while five others made the switch soon after and a handful more plan to follow suit by year-end.

Merrill Lynch today announced the sale of its flagship City of London office
An affiliate of GIC Real Estate, the property investment arm of the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation, has agreed to purchase Chapterhouse Holdings Limited whose primary asset is the Merrill Lynch Financial Centre (MLFC) at 2 King Edward Street. MLFC is leased by Merrill Lynch for a term of 15 years with renewal rights extending significantly beyond the initial term.

England House prices rise modestly in June
LONDON (Reuters) - Asking prices for homes in England and Wales picked up modestly from mid-May to mid-June but property inflation held below peaks scaled earlier this year, a survey showed on Monday. Property web site Rightmove said prices rose an annual 13.2 percent during the month. This compares with the previous month's 13.1 percent rise and four-year highs of 15 percent in late March/early April.

London property prices 'rise 33% in a year'
Property prices in London's poshest postcodes are rising at their fastest rate for almost 30 years, figures today indicated. The value of homes in prime areas of the capital swelled by 33.3% in the 12 months to May - the highest rate of annual inflation since March 1979.

UK property market 'remains healthy'
The latest House Price Index released by the Department of Communities and Local Government (CLG) confirm that the UK Property market remains healthy, despite the most recent interest rate rises. According to the report, the mix-adjusted UK house price rose from £206,890 in March 2007 to £209,454 in April, not accounting for seasonal adjustments.

Prices of prime property in central London are growing
Research has shown that London’s traditional spring market rush is starting earlier and earlier every year. Over the past two years the market has opened in December rather than March and runs on well into May. The beginning of this year saw a price growth totalling nearly 11.9 percent in the first quarter.
